Meet Alexandra

Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.
-John Green

What is Booked Up Blog?

The thing about reading is that anyone can do it...and everyone should.  I have always been a reader, but it wasn't until the Fall of 2015 that I was able to really devote time to my favorite pastime.  Being unable to leave my house really left with me with a lot of free time...and a lot of wanderlust.  (More on that below.)  Since then, I have read over 300 books.

Having that milestone seems useless if you don't have someone to share it with, which is where you come in, dear friend.  Here is where I will share my literary adventures with you and hopefully inspire you to pick up something new.  My TBR pile is never ending (so much so that it's turned into it's own bookshelf), which means I'll always have something new to experience and share with you.

Here's how this works.  I'll devour a book and report back here with the low-down on my latest read.  For those of you who don't have time to read an entire post, I'll always have a TL/DR and my rating at the very end of the review, so just scroll down to the bottom.   My Instagram and my Facebook page will be the best place to stay up to date with my bookish adventures. I'll also share my favorite quotes, some interesting facts on authors or books, and even create my own booklists.  Got a request for a book recommendation or two or three?  I can do that too.  Honestly, I'm happiest when I'm helping others and discussing books, so why not do both at the same time?!

Who is Alexandra?

Just your typical English-teaching, book fanatic over here.  I love all things that have to do with books, reading, writing, and proper grammar.  I've always been a reader thanks to my mom and my grandmother.  They both took me to the library at an early age, and I can't remember a time when I wasn't reading a book.  I would read to and from school on the bus or in the car, I would read rather than going outside to play in the summer, and I still find myself staying up too late to finish just one more chapter.   My love of literature led me to become an English teacher.

In September 2015 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Shout out to my fellow spoonie readers!  When I was first ill, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands .  I used this time (on my good days) to dive into reading again.  I never thought I would read as much as I have since then, but it really has been a blessing in disguise.  I've been able to travel all over the world through the pages of a book.  The things I've learned about from my reads have been vast, and I can't stop talking about them.  I've decided to share my love of literature with whomever is willing to read about it.

This endeavor is for both me and you, friends.  I'll be sharing on Instagram, Facebook, Goodreads, and this blog, so be sure to follow my current reads on all of the platforms.  I'm excited to officially get started because there's nothing like being hooked up with a good book...or should I say booked up?
